REGIONAL GROUPS

Group of European Charophyte Specialists (GEC)

The GEC specialists was founded in 1987, in the widest sense of this word to include every scientist interested in recent or fossil charophytes.

GEC means "Groupe Européen des Charophytologues " i.e. "Group of European Charophytologists". The structure is an informal one; there is no membership fee.

Over many years, the GEC was co-ordinated by Dr. J.P. BERGER, Geological Institute, University of Fribourg. During the 14th meeting of the GEC in October 2003, the European Group decided upon a rotating presidency assumed by the organisers of successive GEC meetings.

President now is: Dr. Susanne Schneider, Limnologische Station der Technischen Universität München, Hofmark 3, D - 82393 IFFELDORF, Germany.

Chinese Regional Group on Charophytes (CRGC)

The CRGC mostly combines its meetings with the venue organised by the Micro-palaeontological or Palaeobotanical Society in China.

During the Quadrennial Meeting of the Chinese Micropalaeontological Society in November 2004, the Regional Committee was elected as follows:

  • Dr. Wang Qi-fei
  • Dr. Lan Liqiong
  • Dr. Ping Yang

Contact person: Dr. Qifei Wang at Nanjing Institute of Geology and Palaeontology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, 39 East Beijing Road, 210008 Nanjing, China.

Austral-Asian Charophyte Group (AACG)

The AAGC was initiated at the IRGC meeting in Robertson, 2004. The aim of the group is to enhance contact and collaboration among members in the Asia-Pacific region.

It was decided that it will function as an email group and the possibility of organising a regional conference was discussed. New charophytists in the region are invited to join the group.
